A Whale of a Tale

Now with more whale and less tale! Here are some of the shots I took while we was out on da wahda, watchin' da whales.

The journey begins.

Sound advice.

Leaving Halifax behind us.

I somehow forgot to take a picture of our boat, but we boarded her: the Sea Tiger.

On board.

Chillin' wit' da crew.

Fellow sailors, only with actual sails.

We weren't the only ones touring the harbour that day.

From above deck.

Georges (but not George's) Island.

The crew of HMCS Charlottetown.

With some not in uniform, or maybe a tour?

Amid the vast expanse...

Hark! A seal! Or maybe a piece of trash...

Who can say for sure?

The Harbour Queen, out for a stroll.

Zoooom!

Intrepid whale watchers.

Ah, the bliss of watching whales...

Spotted! It's no white whale, but Ahab would be proud.

"Weeeeeee're Seeeeaaaaaguuuuulllllls!"

ZOOOOOOOM!

Our sister ship.

100% authentic sea life, now playing in a cooler near you!

Challenge Number 3: Post n' Boast

This week's challenge asks you to create a visually captivating and creative C@P-vertisement to post in your community!
The poster can advertise the services C@P offers in general, or an event, etc. specific to your Summer Project. I want you to actually post them, so be sure that the picture you submit shows it visually in your community (i.e. on a mailbox, telephone pole, etc.)

HINTS:

-Microsoft has some great free graphics you can use at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/images/
-Colourful works best
-Correct Spelling and Grammar are MUSTS!
-Poetry/Wittiness/Plays on Words never hurt anyone
-Posting outside = rain, so be sure to waterproof!

Orientation Day Gallery!

Thank you to everyone who came to Friday's Orientation! It was so wonderful to meet all of you, and our new friend the Minke Whale!

I Bet You Were Expecting Ketchup

hey everyone,

this would normally be the place where you'd see my drawing of a ketchup bottle or something, but I have yet to fully figure out the awesomeness that is Google Sketchup. I played around with it a little bit throughout the week and figured out how to draw squares and circles and all that, but nothing cool came of it as of yet...just need to tinker around with it a bit more I guess and then I'll have it figured out.

So, instead of ketchup, I will give you an update as far as what has happened this week at the ROC.

We had many people come into the Resource Opportunities Centre to do several different things, but the highlight of the week was Movie Night.

Movie Night!

This week was an off week for the day camps at the ROC but that meant that Movie night was on! And it was quite the party for those who showed up last Thursday night. The two individuals who showed up to Movie Night at the ROC were treated to a showing of “Monsters vs. Aliens.” Pizza and juice was served and a good time was had by all.
Hopefully we’ll have more kids out to our next movie night which will happen on July 29, 2010 at 6pm. The Feature film will be “Kung-Fu Panda.” $5 gets you your movie, popcorn, juice and a slice of pizza! Yeah, it’s a sweet deal!

Looking Ahead to Next Week:

The second round of summer day camps will occur next week on July 21 and 22 from 10 am to 3 pm. The theme for this coming week is “Pirates at the ROC” (which should be great fun! Due to the popularity of the first set of day camps held on July 7 and 8, “Pirates at the ROC is FILLED TO CAPACITY!!! That’s always a good thing!
And that’s the kind of week it’s been here at the Resource Opportunities Centre.

Challenge #2 Entry - Keegan Moser

This was interesting. I did quite a bit of tinkering trying to make the bottle curved before I got it to work out. I had to create a rectangular plane at an angle to the top face of the cylinder I began with, and use the Follow Me tool to extend the face around 360 degrees. I did this several times with different angles until I had the curved effect I was looking for.

I made labels for the bottle with Microsoft Paint, and used Adobe Photoshop to save them as a .png file that would give me an image without the white box surrounding it that a .jpg would inevitably have produced. Then I imported them into SketchUp as textures.

For the plate, I started with the basic shape, and used the offset tool many times to create a series of congruent shapes around it, then pushed them up to increasing heights.

The fries are just simple rectangular prisms. Some of them I sliced triangular segments away from the ends of , and used the move tool on single edges to make them look slightly more fry-like.

Huzzah for Ketchup.

I just used the upload image button to add the image to my post, if it won't enlarge, I'll upload it to Picasa or Panoramio, and add a link.

Ketchup Sketch-up or just a ketchup mess?..

Hey, so the sketch-up was interesting... It was fun but frustrating, I some how kept deleting what I had done or changing an object completing. I am still trying to learn more about the program, but as far as the ketchup sketch-up, here it is!
