Short message

Sorry that this is such a short message but it was decided by Delaney and me that we will be blogging on Monday because of the fact that we want to blog all about the Seaside Festival so on Monday you will find a huge blog that will cover many of the events that are happening this weekend and have happened this week. I would make this long but I have to go volunteer at the St. Peter's church supper.
Have Fun

The beginning of an adventure packed week

This week started the Sheet Harbour Seaside Festival. the most celebrated events of the year in this small town are happening starting last Wednesday and ending not this Sunday but next Sunday with a beautiful fireworks display. there are several events everyday for the whole family.
If you find yourself bored come on down to Sheet Harbour. On saturday we have the Seaside Festival Parade which both us and the Moser River C@P Site interns will be participating in. it will be so much fun and hopefully we will generate more peoples interest in the C@P Site. Next week you will get to see lots of pictures of the Festival on our Blog. this picture below is one I took last year:
this is the Seaside festival link for more details: http://seasidefestival.sheetharbour.ca/
Just about everyone that grew up in Sheet Harbour and the surrounding area come home for this festival.
Nothing much happened this week except people preparing for the celebration of the year.
Hope your week is as good as ours
Have Fun

In this one horse Town

Unfortuntly there are no horses in Sheet Harbour but there are a few just outside of Sheet Harbour. My cousins and used to have horses but they were all sold when we went to post secondary institutions (even our cows were sold) cause there was no one to look after them. Anyway what I was trying to say is that very little happened this week in the community.
We had a few people come in to book classes for next week which is great. we had a movie night on wed. which only three children showed up (I believe that Delaney got that idea from one of the blogs). I had to make a house to help someone with a PowerPoint they were creating for her daughters wedding on Saturday.
Have a fun long weekend

Have fun,

very bad videos and this week in Sheet Harbour

the above video is of our whale watching. there is about a minute of very bad recording before the whale shows up but hopefully you'll enjoy the video. to take a look at my pictures of the trip you can find them on Facebook. Last Friday was a lot of fun.
This week has been quiet and we have an interesting (and confusing) story which Delaney is writing about ( I can hear her giggling as she types the story). The only thing that really happened this week other than her story and the story i'll be writing later is poor uncle (he's not really my uncle just a family friend) Max asking us the same questions yesterday and today and just about everyday he comes to the C@P site. Max is a nice old man who last year brought us homemade chocolate fudge (yum). Okay another thing about uncle Max is that he left us a challenge that we would like help with he said we can't look it up online but didn't say anything about ask friends about it. the challenge is: what is the rabbit in red? (his hint was something to do with Bugs Bunny) i seem to recall bugs singing "a rabbit in Red" or something like that. Can you help us?
Anyway my story is more of a rant than a story. Last night during a mother and her two kids came into the C@P Site at about 15 to the closing time (which since she is a regular she would know the closing times) at about 7:58 I let Delaney go home and told the mother that we close in two minutes she said that she just need to finish what she was doing so I figured she'd be done in like five minutes fifteen minutes later she finally finishes (with me in the background tapping my feet and reading Shakespeare) and leaves without saying Thank You or anything and her kids leave the borrowed headphones for me to pick up! How rude! after I let her stay longer! well i won't be doing that again.
Anyways thanks for reading my blog and have fun

Does anybody know a Shirley?

Maybe it was our whirlwind of crazy weather yesterday, or just Sheet Harbour! but I received a rather interesting phone call...
Yesterday afternoon the job search services phone rang. Since the lady who regularly answers the phone is currently on vacation it is the responsibility or Brittney or I to answer. Unfortunately for me, I chose to answer the phone... The call went like this:

"Job search services, Delaney speaking"

"WHO?"

"This is Delaney, Dawn is off on vacation right now" (I quickly realized that it was an elderly women on the other line, as she continued to yell in the phone, and this women did not have a pleasant voice ...)

"WHOSE DAWN?"

"Dawn is the lady who works for job search services, she would normally take this call"

"Well I had a call about a women who wanted to look after me but I wrote down her phone number wrong, her name was Shirley"

" Okay well do you know anything else about her?"

"NO, YOU MUST KNOW A SHIRLEY LOOKIN FOR A JOB!!"

"No, i'm sorry I don't"

"YOU DON'T KNOW ANY SHIRLEYS"

"No, sorry. You will have to wait until Dawn gets back from vacation, she will be in on Tuesday"

" WELL NO, I need to call her back today, isn't there anybody there who knows a Shirley lookin for a job?"

"Hold on one second"

Well that was my conversation with the lady, I then gave the phone to Brittney, who took the ladies name (which was Denise) and then told her that she would have our supervisor call her back in a minute. When we got off the phone and told the story to Maureen she said that the lady had a job posting here looking for someone to be a caregiver for her. I'm assuming this woman was in her 80's or 90's.
Now, this all ended in a very confusing way! Turns out Denise and Shirley BOTH had job postings on our board, but they were both looking for the same thing, a caregiver. Shirley misunderstood Denise's posting and called Denise to be Shirley's caregiver. Meanwhile Denise thought she was applying for the job as her caregiver, and poor Shirley thought she was hiring somebody for herself!

I hope everybody understands my story, It was hard trying to make it make sense to others!
Other then that nothing exciting has really happened at our site this week. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Ketchup Sketch-up or just a ketchup mess?..

Hey, so the sketch-up was interesting... It was fun but frustrating, I some how kept deleting what I had done or changing an object completing. I am still trying to learn more about the program, but as far as the ketchup sketch-up, here it is!

Sketch up and what happened this week

That is my Sketch up. just in case you can't see it that is pizza, fish and chips, two hamburgers a drink of sprite (or 7up) and a jar of straws. I would like to put it on record that i don't like ketchup. the sketch up program is very interesting program, took a long time to figure out how to work it maybe i should of read the instructions but i never liked to read instructions. I still have things to learn about it. I downloaded it online but it seems my trial has expired I do not know if anyone else's has. this week the bad weather seems to have chased most of our costumers away not that i blame them who wants to leave home in such bad weather, although i did take the time to go dancing in the rain. it was pretty much a regular week.
I'm looking forward to Whale Watching tomorrow. hope the weather will be good.

Delaney :)

Hi everyone,
I'm Delaney from Sheet Harbour. I am new to C@P this year. So far this has been a great experience and I have already learned a lot of new things and this is only my first week! Over the next few months I hope to expand my knowledge of computers even more. This summer I am teaching a movie maker course to children, which I am really looking forward too.
I graduated this June and will be attending SMU in September. I've lived in Sheet Harbour area all my life and really enjoy it. It's a very small community, that honestly does not offer a lot as far as amusement goes. But that's why I like it so much, It's very nice and relaxing!
I look forward to spending my summer with C@P and I hope everyone has a great weekend!:)

This Week in Sheet Harbour

Sheet Harbour C@P has been extremely quiet this week. Next week we will be getting another student joining us. This picture was taken this week. Note the two fans... this place is really hot most days.
There was not a lot happening in the community this week even with Canada Day (on that note I hope everyone had a good Canada Day). Usually we have a parade or at the least fireworks but we did not this year everyone mostly did there on thing.
Nothing interesting happened this week except I seem to have developed I way of mind read the regulars because I always know that they need headphones before they ask (or at least one kid thinks so). Mostly what i did this week was take a few photos, clean the computers and help people when they asked for help.

News from Sheet Harbour C@P

This week has been fairly quiet. I helped some one with their facebook account (they had been kicked off for some reason), I also made him a new hotmail account only to find out that the guy had probably a dozen live email accounts. I cleaned off all of the computers and ran a virus scan over all of the computers. We are having some problems with the printers so I will probably be working on that next week (some of the computers say that the printer is offline but yet the printer works when using other computers). Another interesting thing that I probably should of mentioned last week is that we have extended hours on Wednesday and Thursday from 9am-8pm (I get to come in at 1pm, which is great cause i love sleeping in). This just started June 2nd, 2010, the first two days with the new extended hours no one came but yesterday we got quite a few people.
In community events they started building a new Nursing Home it should be completed next year. on the 19th there is an annual Charter night for the Sheet Harbour Lions and Lionesses. See this site for more community events http://www.webspawner.com/users/ecumsecuminfo/index.html
the Sheet Harbour website is http://www.sheetharbour.ca/
A fair amount of people have come into the C@P Site this week most of them were High Schoolers who visit between exams. This ties in with my funny story of this week. Early this week one of the boys who were going into grade twelve came into the site and asked me if I would write his exams and he would work at the C@P Site during that time. I told him that I could but then he would probably fail we had a good chuckle over that. the next day he came in and informed that he aced his exam and had only French-history left. About 20 minutes after he told me this someone asks him what exams he had left and he had to ask me because he forgot. After his exams were all finished he came into the C@P Site and asked me for a pair of head phones a few minutes later he asked for help because they were not working but then he realized that he forgot to plug them in. The poor guy.

That's all for me this week.

Brittney Hartling, Sheet Harbour

Hey,
My name is Brittney Hartling from Sheet Harbour Nova Scotia. This is my third year working at the Sheet Harbour C@P Site. I spent my whole life in just outside of Sheet Harbour and went to school at the Sheet Harbour High School (Duncan MacMillan High School). I just finished my fourth year at Memorial University of Newfoundland but I still need some credits to finish my BA so I will be returning to MUN in the fall. I'm majoring in History and am hoping to eventually get a degree in teaching.
For those that do not know where Sheet Harbour is, a small village is located about an hour and a half to two hours away from Dartmouth. It is pretty much in the middle of no wheres but I love it here! Nothing much ever happens here but I will try to fill my blogs with some of the most interesting things that happen here without lying. I have never done a blog before so I'm unsure about how this works but I will try best.
I do not know what else to put so,
Have fun today!
